  1. 15:14 This one hurt me today. Major THS on the burpees and at the top of the stairs. I lost a minute per round: 1st- 4 min, 2nd- 5+ min, 3rd- 6+.

Great job Alex. You beat Zach at his own game.

A lot of great effort this morning. Keep up the good work.

  5. 16:15. Was seriously sucking wind this morning, and filled with weekend weakness. Motivated by another recruit to the post-formation crew, though; the Black and Gold nation continues to grow...

  10. I have a brand new pair of all black Vibram KSO's (Tags still on, in the box) that are a bit too small. i know they are hard to come by these days, so I figured I would see if any of the B&G Nation wanted them before I send them back. I will sell them for $80 (the same price I paid for them). They are size M42. If you are interested email me. I'm the only MAJ Caldwell on the global.

  15. Question about the VFF's you as future leaders of the United States Army as officers. I have noticed that some of you are wearing them while working out. I inquired about the VFF's with my unit and doing PT. They replied with "no you can't use them because they are considered a "trendy" shoe. Is that the same problem you guys are having?

  16. 20:03. Ouch. Still fun. Must improve.

Reminder: Wear your toe-socks with your VFFs! The APFU requires socks! (if the VFF site is out of them order them from backcountry.com)

To Firefighter: So far our trouble with VFFs is that some folks' opinions differ on what constitutues a 'shoe'. That and folks not wearing socks with them and therefore being 'out of uniform'. Hope your agency figures it out and approves them.

  18. Fire fighter:
I had an emotional conversation in January with a (current) infantry company commander who is on his second (specialty) command in the old guard who would not approve them in his company. I simply asked why and he had no idea. After further inquiry, it boiled down to the fact that he had done zero research and, like many leaders, just said no for the simple fact of saying no. You will find that many leaders in the Army (of which I am/have been guilty of) say no to things like this b/c then you don't have to worry about looking into the situation, doing any research, or having to worry about the issue anymore. I think this is an easy way out in which I have learned this the hard way in the last thirteen years. Unfortunately, this is all too common, but the hope is that junior leaders take note of this and consider it when they have to make a decision like this on some other issue in the future. If this particular company commander (that I spoke with) would have done at least a teeny-bit of research or even listened to his NCO (as to why he started wearing VFFs instead of shod-shoes) he potentially would have made a different decision.
I have personally found a new lease on life especially with running after I was told by a doctor that my long distance (anything over a 10k) running days were over due to two ankle surgeries I have had from a ranger school injury. Given these circumstances, I was willing to try anything, and after being introduced to this style of shoe (and running), doing some research, and trying it myself, I have concluded that this has been one of the best things that has improved my physical fitness (and warfighting capacity) in a very long time. I have done a nine miler, 13.1, and most recently a 10.25 miler in NYC this past weekend with ZERO injury or pain (on all types of terrain). Oh by the way this is coming from joe-average runner, a guy whose longest run was 10 miles in 2001 (I was 25 yrs old and supposed to be in much better shape). I needed to find more effecient and effective ways to stay in shape and VFFs absolutely meet this personal intent. Best of luck. There is tons of research out there that clearly stipulates there health benefits.

  21. Looks like I missed a great day with B&G! Alex...you were smokin! Thanks for the great post, Jimmy.

Worked out with CF Oahu again...we did Max Snatch Balance then 3 Rounds for Time of:

-10 DB Power Snatch (each arm @ 35#)
    -20 DB Hang Squat Clean (@ 35#)

Max Snatch Balance was 95# (definitely a goat for me). Time on the other portion was 8:42. Hang Squat Cleans were rough.
